Root canal therapy is indicated when the cavities have extended close to or into the nerve of the tooth. In other instances, a crack or fracture may expose the nerve, causing severe pain and intense sensitivity.
Once we evaluate all the treatment options with you and decide to save the tooth, the first step is to ensure that you feel relaxed and comfortable, and a local anesthetic will be administered to numb the tooth.
The decay and nerve tissue will then be removed and cleaned with specialized instruments and tools. The tooth is then sealed to prevent further decay and reinfection.
We may recommend that you return to our office to have a dental crown over the tooth for long-term strength and protection.
